Baby Moccasins
Baby moccasins are usually made from Deer hide. This hide is very soft and pliable so that it is gentle on the baby's feet and also allows a lot of room for foot growth. The leather will stretch as the baby's feet grow so that they can be worn up to a year old.
These baby moccasins are excellent for the toddler just learning to walk. The leather in not slippery so he will have a good grip. Many doctors recommend this kind of moccasin for infants because they do not inhibit the natural development of their feet.
The moccasins can be tied as illustrated or the leather lace can be placed around the ankle and tied at the back. This method usually helps to prevent the child from kicking them off.
In addition to this type of baby moccasin, I also make one with a higher top. These are called "wrap-around moccasins" because the top wraps around the ankle area & is tied with a longer piece of leather lacing.
Another type of baby footwear that I make is Baby Sandals. These are a unique design that provides maximum freedom to the baby's feet. I usually make these from Moose hide for longer durability.
